Each session is for 50 minutes.
The amount of sessions needed depends upon the age of your child or young person and the level of the difficulty experienced.
All work up to the age of 17 years, begins with a parent consultation.
When working with babies, toddlers and children aged under five and their parents, I offer six sessions in the first instance, with the option of extending for further six session blocks, as necessary.
For children and teenagers aged 5-17, there will be a minimum of a 3 session assessment following the initial parent(s) consultation session(s). Following the assessment there is further review with parents to see if child and adolescent psychotherapy is likely to be helpful.
Dependent upon the nature of the presenting difficulties, work might be:
short-term (six sessions),
medium-term (10-12 sessions), or
long-term (1 year +).
When working with 18-25 year olds, work might be a short series of 6 sessions if difficulties are not severe. Where difficulties are more complex, assessment and long term work may be needed.
Discussions around individual needs including length of therapy, appointment times and fees can be discussed in the initial parent(s) only consultation(s) and/or in the review following the assessment period.
